DIY Framed Spooning Decor

For the last several weeks I’ve seen many different versions of this project on Pinterest. I of course, wanted to make one to.  I think it is hilarious and adorable!  I think it is perfect for any gift (birthday, anniversary, wedding etc.) and would be a great addition for your own home.  I made this one as a gift but plan to make another one for my kitchen since it is so easy, cheap and cute!

I could never find a very good tutorial of how to create this on Pinterest, so (like most of my projects), I created my own method.  This is how I made it:

Step 1:  Gather Supplies
  • Frame
  • 2 Spoons
  • Background Paper (optional)
  • Printed Saying
  • Hot Glue or other strong glue
  • Tape or Glue (if you don't want to use hot glue on papers)
  • Scissors

Step 2: Cut Out Both the Background Paper and Printed Saying

I found it easiest to plan where I wanted to place the saying before cutting them out.  That way I could make sure to do it the right size.  I also printed out several different sizes of my saying because I wasn't sure how big I wanted them to be.  I decided to use crafting scissors to create a fun border but you can do whichever way you would like.

Step 3:  Tape or Glue Papers to the Background of the Frame

I decided to use tape so that I could move them around if I needed to.

Step 4:  Hot Glue Spoons to Back of Frame

Hot glue both the bottom handle of the spoon and the rounded part (where you eat from) using a generous amount of glue.  Press and hold for a few seconds to make sure it will hold.

The End Result

I think this turned out great and I can't wait to give it as a gift!

Get Naked From Yay Prints

I love quotes and sayings in my house.  I love how they show my personality through a few words.  This week I added to my collection using one of Courtney's photos from YAY Prints.  I also had a chance to interview her.  I was able to learn where she got the idea for her new collection and why she started her business.

1. What made you want to start YAY Prints?

Last year I started working from home. I spend a lot of time on the computer answering emails and phone calls. Designing prints was my way to blow off some steam. I had so many ideas that I decided to open YAY prints etsy.

2. Why did you go for the digital prints instead of mailing them?

There are a lot of benefits for going digital. First! It's a lot cheaper to go and print it yourself vs. buying the print and having it shipped to you. My customer's can worry less about the package being damaged and waiting for the package, digital is delivered to you instantly! PLUS my customer's can print it as many times as they want and give it to others for gifts, or use it as a phone background, or computer background.

3. How do you choose what to make the prints of? (they seem all very positive, is that a theme)

The inspiration from my prints come from my daughter! It's important to me that she sees the beauty this world has to offer and that she recognizes the good. A lot of my prints are so she can see and read the prints in our home.
If you want to see more of her prints check out her Etsy Shop HERE

Check out in a few weeks how I created a personalized frame for this photo.

DIY Vision Board and How It Helps Your Reach Your Goals

We all have goals, dreams and visions of what we want to accomplish in our life.  But many of us let our dreams get lost when life gets crazy and we are focusing on too many things.  Today is the day we need to change that so we can catch our old dreams, create new ones and make our dreams a reality.  We need to work together and inspire each other as we all work towards reaching our goals and go from being a dreamer to doer.

Over the past few weeks we have been working together to achieve our dreams.  If you’ve missed the past few posts check out How to Not Let Your Dreams Get Lost in the Clouds HERE.  How to Live Your Dreams Smart HERE, and 10 Tips to Better Time Management HERE so you can continue on our journey from being a dreamer to doer.

Zig Ziglar once said, “You can’t hit a target you cannot see, and you cannot see a target you do not have.”  So first we need to “have our target” or goals.  What dreams do you have for your future?  What smaller goals do you have in place to accomplish these dreams?  If you need help breaking down your dreams into goals HERE is a link that can help you.

Next we need to “see our target”.  Instead of making a list (which is great too!) I decided to create a vision board.  It helps me be able to see exactly what I want to accomplish (in a fun and personal way).  So here is step by step guide how I created mine:

Step 1: Gather Supplies

  • Piece of paper
  • Old magazine (any kind)
  • Scissors
  • Tape or Glue

Step 2:  Cut Out Pictures From Any Magazine
Try to find pictures or headings that make you think of your goals.  I went through the entire “Good Housekeeping” magazine and I was very surprised how many pictures I found!  Try to cut them all out (you can sort them out when you are all done).

Step 3: Sort Through All The Pictures
I found tons of pictures and decided to throw out a few that I didn’t need.  If you don’t have enough, try going through a new magazine.  You can also print things off the internet if you want to include something specific.

Step 4: Tape It All Together

Step 5: Hang Up Your Vision Board
Try to find a place you will see many times a day; bathroom mirror, fridge, your desk, or you could even take a picture of it and make it your home screen on your phone.  Every time you see your vision board, you will have another time to think about your goals throughout the day.

My End Result

I would love to hear and learn from you.  So dreamers, what are your dreams?  Do you think creating a vision board help you think about your goals and inspire you to act on them?  How are you living your dreams right now?

How to Take Wax Out of Candle Jars and DIY Candle Tarts

Have you noticed why candles burn out when they are close to the end?  It is because the wick runs out even though there is still wax at the bottom.  Well this week I learned how to take that wax out the easy way.  I was also able to repurpose the old candles into do it yourself candle tarts.  This is easiest and cheapest projects you will ever do.  It is great for your own home or for gifts.  I used mine as a gift to my grandma, since she has a obsession with candles.

DIY Wall Art Using Cardboard

I think my living room is finally decorated how I like it! In just a few weeks I was able to turn my blank walls into a room showing personality and feel like home.  I did this with a mixture of do it yourself projects, apartment therapy tricks and budget tips.  I'll post pictures of the whole room soon to show you the overall look (since I'm so excited how it turned out!).

Now back to the project, I created this project using cardboard and wall paper in less than 10 minutes and for only $1!  It was the easiest project I've made so far and it goes great with my other living room decor.  This is a tutorial of how I did it.

Do It Yourself Framed Monogram Letter

I love words and letters.  I love how they show your personality and who you are, I love all the different styles, colors, fonts and sizes they can come in.  Plus they are really easy to decorate with and great for apartment therapy because you can make a statement with your favorite quote.

DIY Sunburst Mirror from Paint Sticks

I love mirrors and new ways to use "junk" (like the paint sticks)! So when I found all the unique  sunburst mirror craft ideas to do at home on Pinterest I knew I needed to make my own to turn paint sticks  and mirror from junk to treasure. Here is how I did it.

DIY Chevron Necklace From Paint chips

Chevron is everywhere! Chevron clothes, jewelry.. even wedding themes.  As I keep seeing chevron it makes me want everything chevron too!... Well maybe not everything but I definitely did want a necklace in that pattern.  As I was looking at Pinterest of all the cute clothes that were accessorizes with a chevron necklaces I got motivated to try to make my own jewelry at home... even if I had to start at beginners level (I've never made jewelry before).  I made my necklace grey, black and white and I love how it turned out!  But maybe next time I will choose colors that "pop" so it can be more of a statement piece or a bracelet to match. But here is a tutorial for a cheap do it yourself necklace.
